Rainstorm leaves over 800 people with no food

Over 800 people in Central Mozambique are desperately in need of food after being cut off by the devastation wrought by the tropical rainstorm Freddy.

Local authorities say they have tried to send food to the town of Marromeu in Sofala province though transport and communication networks have been almost completely destroyed by the heavy rainstorm which hit the region for weeks.

Over 20 deaths have been reported in Mozambique following the tropical storm but there is concern that the number could rise.

However South Africa has vowed to assist its neighbors to recover from this destruction.
People have been surviving on wild fruit for the last few days.
