Male circumciser on the run

Following an incident in Buvuma District were a baby died hours after being circumcised, police are investigating the incident under which it occurred.

This incident happened on a Monday at Kiiko Fishing Village in Buwaga Parish Bugaya Sub county in Buvuma District.

Some of the eye witnesses told our media that an identified man called upon all Muslims whose children weren’t circumcised to take them to him for a free circumcision.

However unsuccessfully the procedure went wrong and the baby died after being circumcised. The matter was later reported to police by Ms Judith Nabuzaale who furiously condemned the act.

She argued that any circumcision procedure was supposed to be performed by a qualified surgeon and she wondered why residents were still seeking services of traditional circumcisers

“Many of the local circumcisers operate under unhygienic conditions which may cause rare complications including poor healing since they aren’t trained to do the work.”

She added that the village has Bugaya Health Center 3 which offers circumcision services at no cost but residents still seek traditional herbalist.

According to Ms Butoto Hellen the Ssezibwa police spokesperson confirmed the incident though the suspect was on the run.

Ms Butoto told our media that Mr Jamal and wife handed their one and two weeks child to the suspect to be circumcised which ended in heavy bleeding and later on the baby passed on.

However police are still in ground to establish whether the suspect was a trained surgeon qualified to perform such a procedure Ms Butoto told our media.

Ms Butoto further appealed to the public to be careful with people who are not known in the community and encouraged those seeking their children to be circumcised to be done professionally only in government heath facilities.

However the parents of the deceased have concealed the identity of the suspect from the public claiming that he has been the one circumcising their children over the years without any problem.
