Ms Milly Babalanda the minister for presidency has said all is set for government to commemorate the 34th Heroes Day set for tomorrow June 9 at Kasaala Catholic parish grounds in Butuntumula Sub County, Luweero district.
However according to the minister this year’s celebrations will be marked under theme: Arise Uganda; our heroes sacrifices are now bearing fruit and the function will be graced by the president as the the chief guest.
Meanwhile the minister further noted that a health camp has been organised at Lutuula health centre 2 to precede the day’s commemorate.
“ we have organised health camp as part of the event preceding the heroes day and RDC’s are encouraged to mobilise people to turn out for the camp,”the minister said.
The ceremony will be open to the general public without mandatory Covi-19 testing except for a few invited guests who will be required to take a Covid test.
However regarding the uncompensated war veterans the minister said that the compensation funds of war veterans and war affected persons was released and some have already them.
Meanwhile the minister further proffered that whereas the people of greater Luweero are still faced with several challenges like poor road network in some parts , the government is committed to develop the region ever since the National Resistance Movement launched a guerrilla war that ushered in President Museveni to power in 1986.
In addition every June 9 the government marks Heroes day in celebration of the first NRM/A heroes to be executed at Kikandwa Luweero by the Uganda National Liberation Army in 1981,a few months after the NRA rebel leader launched a war against Milton Obote’s government.
Luweero was the epicentre of the five year guerrilla war that brought in Mr Museveni’s government to power in 1986 though constantly opposition politicians have persistently slammed the government for neglecting the area in the last 37 years of it has been in power.
