The remains of lead lawyer Anthony Wemeli will arrive into the country today as reported by a close member of the family.
While presiding masses at Ebenezer Faith Ministry in Kanyanya deacon Samuel Boloki revealed that preparations were under way to repatriate the deceased’s body were complete and expected in the country between 2pm and 3pm today for final rituals and emphasized the family, friends and NUP to work together to receive the body.
However it’s noted that Wameli who represented NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi during the 2021 presidential elections petition before the Suprem court died aged 44 having been born on August 29,1978.
He was also a human rights lawyer under his company of Wameli &Co, Advocates and rose to fame in 2017 when he defended the suspects in the trial for the murder of the former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
It’s also on record that he further extended his services to suspected rebel leader of Allied Democratic Force (ADF) Jamil Mukulu , former presidential candidate Gen Henry Tumukunde and former accountant in the office of the prime minister Geoffrey Kazinda.
It’s on record that on September 10,2021 the Uganda Law Society named Wameli as the ‘Criminal Defense lawyer’ of the year and voted his company as the Law Firm of the year.’
According to Steven Kabalika who had known Wameli for close to 18 years said that the legacy of the deceased shall live on not only as a lawyer but as a pastor too and that his church shall celebrate his life and thank God for all he achieved during the service.
