In a fatal accident on the Kampala–Masaka Highway, one person lost her life, while numerous others sustained injuries, as a bus registered UBA 293A belonging to Kingo bus company overturned on Friday along Kabaale Bugonzi route on Masaka Kampala highway overturned.
The incident occurred on Friday when a bus traveling on the busy Kampala–Masaka Highway tried to over take the trailer overturned, resulting in a devastating crash. Tragically, one individual succumbed to death while several sustained injuries at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed at the time of this report.
The incident, reminiscent of a past tragedy at the same location in 1996 where the renowned kadongo-kamu singer Herman Basudde lost his life, unfolded as the bus was en route to Mbarara from Kampala .
Meanwhile Masaka police confirmed the unfortunate demise of the elderly woman on the spot, whose identities are not yet known pending further investigation.
Jamada Wandera, the police spokesperson for Masaka sub-region said investigations into the fatal accident are ongoing, stating, “The Police is still hunting Tumwine Francis the bus driver who is currently on the run.
He said police is committed to bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding this tragic event and holding those responsible accountable
Meanwhile Wandera also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities in providing any relevant information that could aid in the ongoing investigation to prevent accidents as the festive season draws closer.
Some of the injured were rushed to Masaka hospital for further treatment, while others received on-site medical attention.
