Dr. Flavian Nzeija, the Principal Judge, introduced a video conferencing system at Mubende High Court to revolutionize judicial services in Mubende, Mityana, Kassanda, and Kyegegwa districts.
During the launch, Justice Jamson Kalemani of Mubende and Kiboga High Court presided over an online session where Florence Uwamahoro, facing murder charges, appeared from Kaweeri Prison.
The successful session led to an adjournment to September 27, ensuring the wheels of justice keep turning.
Addressing the community during an open day court event, Dr. Nzeija hailed the video conferencing system as a pivotal advancement.
He expressed optimism, stating, “This system will eliminate the challenges of suspects missing court appearances and enable global participation, reducing delays caused by absent witnesses.”
Acknowledging the case backlog, Nzeija assured the audience of ongoing efforts to bolster the judicial workforce, promising increased efficiency in case processing with the recruitment of additional judicial officers, including judges.
Community engagement for progress
Mubende Chief Magistrate Ms. Caroline Byakutaaga expressed gratitude to the community for their participation in the open day court.
She emphasized the importance of interaction, stating, “Engaging with the public helps us gauge our performance and fosters effective communication between judicial officers and the community.”

Justice Kalemani echoed the need for a resident judge in Mubende to handle cases more efficiently, appreciating the impact of video conferencing technology.
In response, Principal Judge Nzeija introduced Colins Acheram as the new Resident Judge for Mubende, aiming to address the community’s concerns and enhance judicial services
The introduction of the video conferencing system and the appointment of a new Resident Judge were met with enthusiasm by locals, who lauded the open day court for providing a platform to voice their concerns and receive direct responses from judicial officials.
