Police with other relevant security forces have halted down six people including some police officers in link with rampart theft of vehicles in Kayunga District.
However according to the relevant authorities, at least 32 motor vehicles had been stolen in Kayunga District since May last year till date.
In addition Authorities also said that thieves had been targeting Tipper lorry trucks and Saloon cars like Premio, spacio among other brands.
These arrests were fueled by rampart protests of drivers last week shouting and driving at least 20 lorries during which they stormed Kayunga Central Police to demand why the police had failed to contain car theft citing out that some of the police officers were conspiring with the robbers.
They demanded to meet the district police commander and the Resident District Commissioner over the matter.
However later on the area DPC Ms Sikahwa met the driver’s and vowed to investigate the allegations since she learnt that some of the officers were cited in the crime.
“I am going to investigate this claim and if any police officer is found to be involved in the crime he/she will be arrested and prosecuted,” Ms Sikahwa told our media.
Later on police and the Flying Squad operatives conducted an operation during which an officer attached to Kayunga Police Station and five others including some residents were arrested during the operation.
