Following recent remarks made by the deputy inspector General of police Major General Tumusiime Geoffrey after watching what he termed as impressive and high level drill by men and women from the police field force unit that had been organised at Kigo shooting range on the shores of lake Victoria on March 2023.
General Tumusiime passed two messages to the people of Uganda and one of them was to assure Ugandan’s to feel comfortable and put trust in the police force to secure their property.
Secondly he cautioned lawbreakers who might try to think that the police weren’t able to handle any situation from terrorism,robbery not to try their capabilities.
Several newly acquired brand new combat equipment including 15 armored personnel carriers, 50 riot control vehicles were also tested.
On the same day as drills were carried out, spokesman Fred Enanga warned opposition politicians who had declared that they would soon stage demos in Kampala and other cities in protest of the high cost of living to be conscious citing that demonstrations were illegal and that the cops would not allow them to prevail.
Gen Katsigazi pledged that the personnel would get more training locally and abroad to enhance their skills.
Several drills done included handling volatile riots, countering terrorists and using Canines to detect suspected bombs as well as other crimes.
He added that the purpose of the drills was to test the energy of the police. The function was attended by the undersecretary Uganda Police Force Aggrey Wunyi, director counter terrorism Abbas Byakagaba and commander Kampala metropolitan police Stephen Tanui among others.
